Bio
Alex is an experienced and highly skilled Clinical Lead Physiotherapist with a specialist passion for neurological rehabilitation. Since qualifying in 2008, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals maximise their recovery and achieve meaningful, person-centred outcomes through evidence-based rehabilitation.
Alex graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2008, having previously completed a degree in Medical Science at the University of Leeds. Her strong interest in understanding the complexities of the human body and neurological conditions shaped her career from the outset. She began her professional journey within the NHS, working in acute stroke and neurorehabilitation services at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, as well as community hospital settings across the region.
As her specialist interests developed, Alex moved into the charitable sector, gaining extensive experience across services in East Yorkshire and later at Daniel Yorath House in Leeds, part of The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (now Brainkind). During this time, she worked with a diverse range of neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injury, rare neurological disorders, spinal injuries, orthopaedic conditions, and patients with disorders of consciousness. This broad clinical exposure enabled her to develop advanced skills in complex neurological rehabilitation and holistic patient management.
Alex has undertaken extensive postgraduate training, including SAEBO upper limb rehabilitation, Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES), spasticity management incorporating Botulinum Toxin therapy and serial casting, Aquatic Physiotherapy for neurological conditions, and Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT). She has a particular interest in upper limb rehabilitation and is passionate about helping individuals regain function, independence, and confidence in everyday life.
Throughout her career, Alex has championed rehabilitation beyond the clinical setting. She developed and led community integration programmes, supporting individuals in returning to sport, leisure activities, and meaningful daily occupations. Her work focused on promoting independence and enabling patients to successfully transition back into their communities and everyday lives.
In 2021, Alex moved into private practice and was appointed Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in 2023. In this leadership role, she continues to drive clinical excellence, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the ongoing development of specialist neurological rehabilitation services. She thrives in collaborative environments, valuing multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical reasoning, and the continual pursuit of innovative rehabilitation approaches.
Alex is known for her ability to see the potential in every individual she works with. She takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation, combining clinical expertise with creativity, compassion, and a deep understanding of each person’s goals and motivations. By building strong therapeutic relationships and drawing upon a robust evidence base, she empowers patients to achieve outcomes that are meaningful to them and supports them throughout every stage of their rehabilitation journey.
Alex is an active member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN) and has completed the basic and advanced Hydrotherapy Training for Neurological conditions.
