Bio
Cheryl qualified in 2004 and is an experienced neurological physiotherapist with over 17 years of NHS experience working across West Yorkshire in both acute hospital and community rehabilitation settings. Throughout her career, she has supported people living with a wide range of neurological conditions, helping them maximise their independence, improve their mobility and achieve meaningful goals. From the very beginning of her career, Cheryl discovered a passion for neurological rehabilitation, and this continues to shape her person-centred approach to physiotherapy today.
Working across a variety of healthcare settings has given Cheryl extensive experience supporting people through every stage of their rehabilitation journey, from the early phases of recovery following acute illness or injury to long-term rehabilitation within the community. She understands that every person’s experience is unique and works closely with individuals and their families to develop tailored rehabilitation programmes that reflect their personal goals, lifestyle and aspirations.
Cheryl has a particular interest in helping people with long-term neurological conditions maintain their independence, confidence and quality of life. She believes that rehabilitation should be meaningful, functional and empowering, focusing on what matters most to each individual. Her calm, supportive approach helps people feel confident to challenge themselves while working towards realistic and achievable goals.
Alongside her extensive neurological rehabilitation experience, Cheryl has developed a specialist interest in facial rehabilitation. Following postgraduate training in specialist facial therapy, she now provides assessment and treatment for people experiencing facial weakness and paralysis resulting from neurological conditions. She supports individuals recovering from stroke, Bell’s palsy, Ramsay Hunt syndrome and other causes of facial nerve dysfunction, delivering personalised rehabilitation programmes designed to improve facial symmetry, movement, function and confidence. Cheryl understands the significant impact facial weakness can have on communication, eating, drinking and emotional wellbeing, and is passionate about helping people regain both function and self-confidence through evidence-based therapy.
Committed to providing the highest standard of care, Cheryl has completed a range of specialist postgraduate training in neurological physiotherapy. This includes introductory Bobath courses, specialist training in the treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease, including PD Warrior, postgraduate specialist facial therapy, and education in the management of long-term neurological conditions. She continually updates her knowledge and clinical skills to ensure her patients benefit from current best practice and the latest rehabilitation approaches.
Cheryl is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology (ACPIN), reflecting her commitment to professional development and excellence in neurological rehabilitation. She values collaborative working and enjoys working alongside families, carers and multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best possible outcomes for the people she supports.
Known for her compassionate nature, approachable manner and positive attitude, Cheryl is passionate about helping people build confidence in their abilities and achieve their rehabilitation goals. She believes that with the right support, encouragement and personalised therapy, individuals can make meaningful improvements that enhance both their independence and overall quality of life.
